BEST OF: BEFORE & AFTERS

Hi guys

I thought I’d share some of my favourite before and afters of design projects over the last few years, and give you my top three take aways [per room] on how I created the Wow factor. I always love seeing before & after photos of rooms that started as lacklustre, and moved to fabulous once the designer had done their magic.

The below project we completed a few short years ago, and I really feel it’s stood the test of time. The colour palette of blues and sandy creams felt fresh and coastal at the time [about eight years ago], and still looks and feels that way today. A great Summer in Sydney feel. I was also very proud to have this one was also featured in Australia’s nationally published ‘Real Living’ magazine.

Here’s my three tips on using some of the techniques I used to create great change if you have a similar sized living room.

Turramurra Living Room

This room started nice enough, but it doesn’t say anything and it certainly wasn’t exciting.

Tip 1: Add a Cohesive colour palette

I added a palette of soft blue, navy and sand for a modern coastal feel without the coral. I painted out a subtle stripe in the lighter sand colour to give the room more character and frame the artwork.

Tip 2: Add size appropriate furniture and rugs.

This room had no rug and the original sectional sofa was too constricting. I designed a large custom rug that allowed all the pieces of furniture to sit within the new ‘zone’ that the rug had created.

Tip 3: Add multiple seating options.

The best way to allow seating for a larger group of people is by adding in multiple seating areas. Most people feel uncomfortable jammed onto an L shaped sofa together, so break up the space by having a mix of sofas, occasional chairs and seating like the ‘pill’ shaped ottoman we designed for this client.
